Political situation and election

Based on the constitution adopted after referendum on October 31, 2010, elections were held for the President and the National Assembly. Mr. MahamadouIssoufou (of PNDS) won the election after defeating Mr. SeiniOumarou of MNSD (now leader of opposition) and assumed charge as President on April 7, 2011, for a five year term.
